What is a Handoff Screen?
A Handoff screen is an electronic display commonly found in restaurants and cafés. Its purpose is to let customers know when their order will be ready for pickup or delivery. Handoff screens connect to either the Kitchen Display Systems (KDS) or the POS systems. Once an order is prepared, it will be automatically displayed on the Handoff screen when the KDS sends a notification that the order is ready for pickup.
How Does a Handoff Screen Work in Restaurants?
A handoff screen is often integrated with a restaurant's POS or kitchen display system.
The flow usually goes as follows -- Order is placed by the customer.
- Order is prepared by the kitchen.
- When the order is ready, the employees update the system indicating that the order is ready.
- Order number, customer name, or pickup code is shown on the handoff screen.
- The order is picked up by either customers or a delivery driver looking at the handoff screen.
- The order is removed from the handoff screen once it is picked up.
