What is Just-In-Time Prep?

Just-In-Time Pre is a restaurant-based work flow where the food is prepared only when an order is placed or just before the required time, as opposed to preparing food in bulk well in advance. This allows a restaurant to keep things fresh, limit food waste, and streamline kitchen operations.

In POS system, Just-In-Time Prep is frequently facilitated with an order management system that transmits live order information straight to the kitchen immediately once a customer places an order.

How Does it Work in the Restaurant POS System?

When a customer places an order via POS, the order is directly sent to the kitchen printer or kitchen display system. The kitchen staff then start product preparation using the live order detail in real time.

For Example-
  • The customer orders a sandwich from the POS.
  • The order is instantly reflected in the kitchen display.
  • Only then did the kitchen staff make the sandwich.
  • The dish is fresh, without being cooked too soon.

That helps restaurants minimize unnecessary pre-preparation, they can maintain higher ingredient quality and customers are served with fresh cooked meals. Just-In-Time Prep also enhances kitchen workflow by matching preparation with real-time order volume.
