What Is the Minimum Wage a Month?
The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. A full-time employee earns about $1,257 a month before taxes are deducted. The total wage is based on 40 hours a week, which means it is around 173 hours a month.
| Hourly wage | Weekly | Monthly (before taxes) |
| $7.25 | $290 | About $1,257 |
| $10.00 | $400 | About $1,733 |
| $12.00 | $480 | About $2,080 |
| $15.00 | $600 | About $2,600 |
This is calculated as gross pay. Taxes and other deductions will lower what a worker takes home.
As an owner, don’t stop at the federal number. Many states and cities set a higher minimum wage, so check your local rate before you make a budget.
Tipped employees work a bit differently. You can pay a lower cash wage in many states, as long as tips bring them up to the full minimum. If they don’t, you owe the difference.
Part-time schedules change the math too, so always multiply by the actual hours each person works.
