What is a POS Machine?
POS Machine is a combination of hardware and software that allows companies to process consumer payments, record sales data, manage their inventory, and generate business analytics using an integrated solution. "Point of Sale" describes both the actual physical location where the transaction takes place, as well as the technological infrastructure which enables it.
How Does a POS Machine Work?
Clients add products they wish to buy. By adding those items to the POS system, the staff starts the invoicing process. The item name and price are typically automatically retrieved from the database when the customers' items are scanned using bar codes or QR codes. An alternative that serves as a fallback in the event that barcodes are unavailable or destroyed is manual entry.
By adding the relevant taxes, special offers, loyalty points, etc., the POS system automatically determines the amount that must be paid. The billing is transparent since both employees and clients are shown the total amount owed. Customers select their preferred payment method.
