Why are reason codes important?
Reason codes are preset messages in a restaurant POS system to show actions that were taken. This could be a void, a refund, a discount, or an order cancellation. Instead of simply logging these occurrences without information. Always try to check the reason before choosing a preselected reason. This allows the POS system to develop an accurate picture of why a certain action was taken.
Common reasons you might see reason codes in a restaurant include:
- An order was entered incorrectly and then voided.
- A customer receiving a refund.
- A customer receiving a discount.
- An item that was previously on an order is being cancelled because it is out of stock.
Some examples of reason codes you might see are a server choosing. "Wrong item entered" when they void an item or "Customer changed mind" when an item is canceled on an order.
