What Are Reservation Platforms?
Reservation platforms are the software services that let guests book a table online instead of walking in. This helps to manage the crowd and keep people moving in. You can probably use Diner, OpenTable, Resy, or Yelp Reservations. As the restaurant owner, picking the right one for your restaurant matters more.
Most platforms work in the same basic way. Guests pick a date, time, and party size on an app or website; the system checks your availability and confirms the booking instantly. On the restaurant side, it shows up on a floor plan your host manages, so you're not double-booking tables.
The differences between platforms usually come down to a few things. Some charge a flat monthly fee, others charge per reservation, and that adds up fast if you're doing high volume.
Some platforms also have their own network; diners who already use that app might discover your restaurant through it, which is an advantage if you're trying to attract new guests, not just manage existing ones.
Worth checking before you sign up. Does it integrate with your POS system, does it handle all big parties or holidays, and does it come with marketing or guest data tools you'll actually use? Also check the contract length; some platforms lock you in for a year, while others have no lock-in period.
