What Is a Restaurant Maid?

A restaurant maid is a person who does the cleaning service that keeps your restaurant clean, it is done usually when the restaurant is closed. Some owners hire one person as a cleaning staff. Others bring in a commercial cleaning company that comes in overnight or early in the morning.

The work goes well beyond wiping tables. A maid service usually handles mopping and sweeping floors, cleaning restrooms, removing trash, wiping down walls and fixtures, and cleaning windows and entryways. Some also do deep cleaning, like scrubbing floors and sanitizing prep areas. Kitchen cleaning is often separate, since it takes special training and has its own health rules.

For restaurant owner, this is about more than looks. A dirty restroom or sticky floor sends guests out the door and hurts your reviews. A clean space also helps you pass health inspections.

When you’re picking a service, ask a few questions. Do they have experience with restaurants? Are they insured? Do they bring their own supplies? Can they work around your hours? Get the price in writing, and see if they charge by the visit or by the month.

Doing it in-house costs less in fees, but you’ll pay for wages, supplies, and the time you spend managing it.
