What is a Zero Balance Gift Card in Restaurants?
A zero balance gift card is used in restaurants, which means a restaurant gift card is unable to be used due to having no money loaded onto it.
In the restaurant business, gift cards are commonly used as a promotional incentive, a gift for a customer, and a gift for any holiday. When a customer receives and spends a gift card, the amount the card has spent will be deducted from the original amount on the gift card. Once the card has a zero balance, it cannot be used.
The ability to check and monitor gift card balances is key for a restaurant's customers, as well as for its internal reporting and finances. Most POS systems update the balance of a gift card with each transaction and can be quickly used to determine if it has a sufficient balance.
A zero balance card can continue to exist within the system for record keeping, reporting, or future reload options if your policy permits. For some restaurants, gift cards can be reloaded, while others cannot be used once the balance has reached zero.
