What is Order Status?
The status of an order represents its position in the restaurant's flow of activity after an order is placed, until the order is delivered. Order status also allows customers and restaurants to see at any given point in time where an order is in the process.
By tracking order status, restaurants can communicate better and be more efficient in their operations within the restaurant industry. Tracking order status for a given restaurant includes:
- Monitoring the progress of all orders and minimizing delays
- Better coordination between the back of the house (kitchen staff) and the front of the house (wait staff)
- Providing customers with up-to-date and accurate wait time information
- Reducing missed or forgotten orders
- Increasing customer service and service quality
Each order is assigned a status in a POS and KDS that allows you to easily track where the order is at any point in time. These statuses include “new,” “in progress,” “ready,” and “completed.” As the customer updates their order, either manually or automatically, the status will change accordingly so that everyone in the kitchen can see what has been ordered and when it has been completed in real time.
