How does POS security work?
POS security refers to the measures or technology used to defend your restaurant's POS system, transaction data, and customer information from access, fraud, and threats on the internet and from malware. It includes both digital security, such as software, networks, and data, and physical security, such as devices and access control.
POS security operates by means of numerous layers of protection. The system encrypts during a transaction, and it's transmitted via secure networks to prevent interception of data. By using access levels, only authorized personnel will be able to process a transaction, override, or issue a refund.
Restaurants can also use secure hardware, keeping software up-to-date, firewalls, and detection systems to detect any suspicious activity. Meeting such regulations as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard provides another layer of security, all of which contribute to avoiding data breaches, retaining customer trust, and ensuring reliable POS systems.
