What is Batch Settlement?
Batch Settlement denotes the procedure of finalizing all transactions contained within a batch. This typically occurs at the close of the business day, but the timing may differ based on the merchant's configurations and the demands of their payment processor.
In batch settlement, the transaction information is transmitted from the POS terminal or host to the payment processor. The processor interacts with card networks and issuing banks to enable the transfer of funds from customers' accounts to the merchant's account.
After the settlement is finalized, the merchant's account receives the funds from the transactions.
Batch Settlement in Travel Payments
For travel agencies, batch settlement is crucial for managing and processing payments associated with reservations, ticket sales, and other services. By merging transactions into one batch, these companies can lessen the number of interactions with acquiring banks, thus lowering transaction processing costs and simplifying financial reporting. This method is particularly beneficial for handling a high number of payments for reservations in different time zones, as it allows businesses to make a single request for multiple transactions instead of dealing with each one individually.
Furthermore, batch settlement improves cash flow management, enabling travel firms to foresee consistent and aggregated payments. For instance, every reservation made in one day can be processed together, providing a consolidated summary of transactions. This enables smoother tracking and reporting for accounting teams, streamlining the alignment of received payments with the services provided.
