What does EOD mean?
EOD stands for "End of Day", a common business term used to indicate a deadline by the end of the working day. It is commonly used in workplaces to specify when a task, report, or communication should be completed. In many organizations, EOD is typically considered around 5:00 PM local time, though it may vary by company or industry.
End of Day vs End of Business Day
Even so, when talking about deadlines, there are some subtle differences that could make defining deadlines very important.
End of Day- Is a little more flexible, generally it means by 5 in the recipient's local time, but it can be a bit vague. Its main drawback is that it can create confusion for global teams working across different time zones. It is frequently chosen by companies with a distributed workforce who wish to enable local hours.
End of Business Day- This is considered more technical and specific in terms of referring to when standard working hours are closed on the regular business day (e.g., 5:00 p.m. EST). It brings clarity and is perfect for companies that need to have a set, standardized deadline, like financial companies, but it can be rigid for teams that are working internationally.
