What is Menu Versioning?

Menu Versioning is a systematic way to create, track, and manage multiple versions over time of a restaurant’s menu. Each version is a reflection of previous menu updates that include price changes, ingredient changes, availability of items, portion sizes, and promotion offers. Because of versioning, data that has been overwritten or updated can be retained through a history that can be used for better control and analysis.

How does it work?

Within the modern restaurant landscape, particularly with the implementation of POS systems, when a restaurant makes any updates to its menu, it will create and store a new version of the menu. This allows operators to compare past versions to the current version, allowing them to measure performance against the original or previous versions of the menu. To maintain consistency across all sales channels, including in-store, online ordering, and delivery.
