What is an Online POS System?

An online POS system is a point-of-sale platform that allows businesses to process transactions and manage sales data using an internet connection. It allows businesses to record orders, payment information, and perform other day-to-day business functions via an online platform. This means that businesses can access all of their sales data on any connected device.

Because data is stored online, an online POS system enables real-time updates, remote access to reports, and centralised management of both pricing and settings. In some cases, online POS platforms may offer offline functionality; therefore, transactions would be captured even though the device does not have an internet connection, and then the transaction would be synced once there is an available internet connection.

How an online POS system works

An online POS system records transactions at the point of sale and transmits them to secure servers. Thus, sales data, reports, and system settings are updated in real-time or near real-time.

Typically, users access the system via either a web browser-based dashboard or a mobile phone. Because the system is online, other changes like price updates, menu changes, or altering system settings can all be done at once on all devices connected to the POS system.
