What are Modifiers?
A modifier is an option or addition that lets you add or change a menu item based on your own preferences. Modifiers include but are not limited to extra toppings, substitute ingredients, preferred cooking, and portion sizes.
Restaurants use modifiers to enhance their operational efficiency and enhance the customer experience delivered. Modifiers allow restaurants to enhance customer experience by:
- Offering flexible options and personalized service for customers
- Decreasing the number of order inaccuracies via clear communication of customisation requests to the kitchen
- Tracking high-demand customisation requests to better plan menu management
- Increasing the value of each customer's order through the optional purchase of add-ons.
How do modifiers work?
A Restaurant POS System works by linking Modifiers to specific Menu Items. When processing an order, staff can choose a predefined Modifier for the customer's item, such as "extra cheese," "no onions," "gluten-free," or "extra bacon." Modifiers can either be added to the item or have a fee associated with them, and are included in both the total amount to be charged at the end of the bill and on the kitchen order ticket (KOT).
